- Tell students that today we’re going to read a story called The Little Red Hen.
- Write the title on the board and ask students to show their understanding of the title by writing and drawing in their notebook.
Use te following prompts:
- What do these words mean? (little, red, hen)
- Can you draw a little red hen?
- What do you think will happen in the story? (predict)
- Using the computer or electronic tablet, read The Little Red Hen with your students.
- Ask students comprehension questions throughout the story to check their understanding.
- Ask students if they’ve identified a pattern in the story (e.g. «Not I»).
- Ask students whether they agree with the Little Red Hen’s decision to eat the bread all by herself in the end. Is it nice or not nice of her to do so? Allow the students to express their opinions and debate this question.
-
- You can extend the activity by making a list of things that are nice and not nice.
- Ask students for the morals of the story
- Ask students questions (e.g. Who was a hard worker? Who was lazy?).
Educando recomends that you use this opportunity to explain the word (not) and what it means when placed before a word.
examples:
- not nice
- not good
- not well
- not yet
- not active
Ask students to write a sentence using correct use of not in their notebook.
