Tema 2015: «Unos océanos sanos, un planeta sano»
También regulan el clima, alimentan a millones de personas, producen oxígeno, son el hábitat de una gran variedad de seres vivos y nos proporcionan medicinas y muchos más recursos. Para garantizar la salud de nuestras comunidades y de las generaciones futuras es imprescindible que cuidemos a los océanos con la misma intensidad que ellos cuidan de nosotros.
El lema de este año es «Unos océanos sanos, un planeta sano». Lamentablemente, algunas actividades humanas, como la pesca ilegal, las prácticas de acuicultura insostenibles, la contaminación marina y la destrucción del hábitat y las especies exóticas, así como el cambio climático y la acidificación de los océanos, tienen un impacto negativo sobre los océanos y los mares.
En el Día Mundial de los Océanos 2015 se celebrará un evento en reconocimiento de los ganadores del Concurso Anual de Fotografía de los Océanos.
¿Por qué celebramos el Día Mundial de los Océanos?
- Para recordar a todo el mundo el gran papel que los océanos juegan en nuestras vidas. Son los pulmones de nuestro planeta, que generan la mayoría del oxígeno que respiramos.
- Para informar a la opinión pública de las consecuencias que la actividad humana tiene para los océanos.
- Para poner en marcha un movimiento mundial ciudadano a favor de los océanos.
- Para movilizar y unir a la población mundial entorno al objetivo de la gestión sostenible de los océanos. Son una fuente importante de alimentos y medicinas, y una parte esencial de la biosfera.
- Para celebrar juntos la belleza, la riqueza y el potencial de los océanos.
