¿Cuántos años tienes? / How old are you?

Before starting this lesson:

Use the flashcards at the end of the lesson to elicit and teach the new vocabulary (orally). After your students are familiar with the new words, use the flashcards to elicit the grammar structure (orally).

For more tips on introducing the new vocabulary and grammar structures for each specific lesson, see the Teachers’ Notes at the end of every lesson, before the flashcards.

1. Today’s Vocabulary:

After your students have been introduced to the new vocabulary and grammar structure, hand out the first page of the lesson. Re-elicit the vocabulary using the flashcards and write the words on the board. The students should then write each word below the corresponding image on their page.

2. Today’s Target Structure:

Using the flashcards, re-elicit the questions and answers of the grammar structure and write them on the board. Then have your students copy them on the second page. Students can use this page in the future to study and review the structure.

3. Work in Pairs:

Every lesson plan contains a pair work exercise. There is usually a Sheet A and a Sheet B (one for each partner). Put your students in pairs and have them ask each other questions about the missing information.

4. Now Work Alone:

After the students have finished their pair work, there is a follow-up activity for the students to do on their own. Students will write answers based on the information they received in the pair work exercise. (Make sure they are not doing the follow-up activity and pair work activity at the same time. These are meant to be done separately.)

5. Review and Fun:

Each lesson has one page to use for review. For most activities, you can choose whether students work individually, in pairs, in groups, or as a class. Alternatively, you could assign this page as homework. This page consists of discussion questions, puzzles, games, word searches, scrambles, and other fun activities.
